The Crazy Chicken Lady Show
How I Finally Showed Up Unapologetically
Ever felt scared to show the world your true self? In this episode, I’m sharing how I finally stopped hiding and started showing up unapologetically.
I’d wanted to launch this podcast for a few years now—but fear, self-doubt, and worrying how I’d be perceived held me back. Then I decided: no more hiding. I posted a photo with my chickens (yes, really), embraced the “Crazy Chicken Lady” identity, and realized that authenticity is my superpower.
You’ll hear how that moment sparked a bigger transformation—the messy, beautiful process of unlearning who I thought I should be, and becoming who I really am. I’m also sharing why this show exists for women in their 30s and 40s who are done blending in and ready to claim their voice.
If you’re ready to build confidence, embrace reinvention, and create a life you cluckin’ love—you’re in the right place.

(00:00) Hey Beautiful Welcome back to the crazy chicken lady show. Oh, my goodness I cannot believe season one has officially kicked off. My body right now is covered in chicken bumps. Ha, get it.
(00:11) Like goosebumps, I know it's corny, but Hey, I hope I made you laugh my friend. If this is your first time listening, I'm Nicole Curtis, and I'm so happy that you're here, all right, full honesty, I've wanted to start this podcast for a while like a long while. But you know what kept stopping me?
(00:32) Not the tech stuff, not the planning-but fear. I was scared. Scared of how it would be perceived. Scared people would roll their eyes at the name and think, wait is she serious? She's an author and speaker and she's calling her.
(00:50) Show the crazy ticket lady show. Yeah, that inner voice had some opinions. But deep down, I knew this show needed to exist, and that fear was really just me worrying about being fully seen.
(01:05) And I finally reached a point where I thought, you know what, I'm done, letting fear run the show. So here we are. I've been showing up authentically for years now.
(01:18) So I thought, but there was one part of my life. I kept separate my chickens. Yep, you heard me, my feathered little therapists.
(01:29) I used to tell myself, Nicole, you can't mix that with your professional world who's gonna take you seriously if you're posting about chickens, but honestly, those birds bring me so much joy, the more time I spend with them. The happier I become, and I can't even fully explain it. It's like they grounded me 1 day.
(01:50) I took a picture with them and just posted it. And people loved it, they started calling me the crazy chicken lady and instead of being embarrassed. I leaned into it because for the first time, I was showing up as all of me, not just the polished professional version.
(02:09) And that tiny act of sharing, what genuinely made me happy? It flipped something in me. That's why this podcast is called the crazy chicken lady show.
(02:20) Show sure it's fun and a little weird, but it's also symbolic. It's about showing up fully, owning the quirky, joyful, imperfect parts of yourself without apology. You don't have to hide, shrink, or blend in to be taken seriously.
(02:37) You don't have to disguise what makes you different. To be worthy or successful, I want the name itself to be a reminder. You can be joyful and ambitious, playful and powerful.
(02:51) You can build a life, you cluckin' love without apologizing for who you are and that my friend is what this whole show is about. Now let's fast forward to recently. This current season of life that I'm in.
(03:07) I just finished a work contract and found myself in a weird in between. Can you relate? Are you currently here too?
(03:15) You know, those moments where everything feels like it's shifting at once. Professionally personally, all of it, and at the same time, I started focusing on my health and fitness learning to move my body. Fuel it better and build strength from the inside out.
(03:32) It wasn't about chasing perfection. It was about taking care of myself like I actually mattered In one morning, mid sweaty workout hair, don't care, ha. Can you relate it hit me?
(03:48) This is the perfect time to start the SHOW. Not when everything's figured out, not when I feel perfectly confident. But now, right here in the messy middle, so here I am bringing you along on the ride as I figure it all out one cluckin' day at a time.
(04:05) Now, this part's important. A few years ago I went through what I call my season of unlearning. And I had to learn all the ideas about what a successful woman should look like. Unlearn, the need for constant approval unlearn.
(04:22) That putting myself first was selfish. That season was messy, emotional. uncomfortable and life-changing. Because in it, I started falling in love with myself again, not the curated, trying to please every one version.
(04:37) But the real resilient me, and here's the thing: growth doesn't look glamorous. Sometimes it looks like crying on the kitchen floor with a cup of coffee. Realizing something has to change. Other times it's laughing at yourself.
(04:53) Because you finally get that, you've been holding back for no reason. That's what this podcast celebrates the messy middle
(05:04) This space, our space is for women in their 30s and 40s, navigating change rediscovering themselves and trying to build confidence and courage while juggling while everything And if you haven't noticed or realized, I'm a crier, you know, as I've gotten older, I cry, more, I get more emotional. And I think that's okay, at first I used to be terrified of it to show emotions, because I'm always supposed to be that strong, confident woman, right? I think society has that so much right now for us, that we have to in order to stand in our power.
(05:44) We can't let others in. We can't show emotion. We can't be emotional.
(05:51) But I'm going to tell you right now, my friend. There's going to be a lot more crying.
(05:55) And on this podcast. We talk mindset, self-care, personal growth. The stuff that actually shapes our life, we get honest, we're gonna get real. And yeah, sometimes we cluckin', and laugh about it.
(06:10) I'm not here as an expert with all the answers. I'm here as a fellow traveler who's figuring it out . If you've been spinning your wheels, stuck in self-doubt, or just craving a place where you feel seen, understood and encouraged, you found it, you belong here.
(06:27) Okay, now that we've gone deep like whoa, it's only the second episode, and I've cried already. I hope you can see the emotion or hear
(06:44) Not just for myself, but for you. So let darken light in. lets take the dark and light in it up a bit because if you're going to hang out with me every week, you should probably know maybe a few things about me.
(06:59) Yes, I talk to my chickens like they can understand me full conversation. Pep talks included. I can't start my day without coffee.
(07:08) I don't know about you, but If I if I don't chaos will completely follow. I'm a country girl who loves being outdoors. Give me sunshine ,the woods ,and fresh air any day.
(07:23) I'm improving my health and fitness is a new journey that I'm on not for perfection, but for strength and self-love. Self help books, fuel my growth. But lately, smut books have been my guilty pleasure.
(07:40) Hey, balance. I believe laughter, a good coffee ,and a walk in nature can fix about 90% of lives problems and chickens. In my favorite motto, it's time to rise, shine and cluck and grind.
(07:57) But not the grind, like hustle culture, grind to me, it means showing up in the messy, doing your best and becoming your best self along the way. This isn't just my show. It's our show my friend.
(08:11) I want it to feel like a conversation between friends. You don't need to have it all together to belong here. You just have to show up messy bun, coffee stain, half-formed dream and all because you are not behind, you're not too late and you are exactly where you need to be.
(08:30) So take a deep breath. You're allowed to exhale here. Every episode will be honest, heartfelt, and hopefully a little funny. You'll never hear perfection, just progress. We'll grow, we'll laugh, and we'll keep showing up for ourselves.
(08:50) And if you're ready to keep the momentum going, I've got another episode waiting for you. Mindset Shifts Every woman in her 30s ( and beyond) needs, it's the perfect follow-up to this conversation and I can't wait for you to hear it.
